Sorry!!!

Dear Brother/Sister,

In our last e-mail correspondence, I forgot to thank all of you who have contributed prayerfully and financially towards the purchase of the building. It was an oversight on my part, my apologies! We want you to know that you are truely partners with us in the effort of Chinese Evangelism & Church Planting in Peru. Thanks a million!

In Him,

Michael

PTL!!!

Dear Brother/Sister,

On 9/10, the final signing of all the documents by all involved parties was completed. The deal on the building has been closed.

The title of the deed is being registered at the Registros Publicos under the ownership of the Peruvian Alliance Church. After all, we are planting Chinese Alliance churches in Peru.

Our next step is to clarify our vision for a multi-purpose center. Then we need to work with a competent architect to come up with a comprehensive architectural design for the remodeling and construction efforts. We need additional funds for the design and remodeling/construction efforts. We'd like to set a six-month goal to move in. Please continue to pray with us along these lines!

We are touring the churches in California until 10/5 when we fly back to the East Coast for the Joint Eastern Mission Conference (10/6 to 8). On 10/9, we are heading back to Lima.

Sincerely,

Michael & Christina

Union Oyster House-America Oldest Restaurant-Est. 1826

We had a wonderful lobster dinner on Labor Day at the Union Oyster House in downtown Boston (41 Union Street, 617-227-2750). It supposed to be the oldest restaurant in America that has remained in business since its founding.

We were able to get the booth where John F. Kennedy used to sit and read his newspaper when he frequented the store.

Car Fund

Our 1997 Nissan Laurel has given us faithful service since January of 2004. Before we came back for Home Assignment this past April, the car had broken down twice within a couple of months. Next month when we return to Lima, we'd like to find a replacement.

Any offering towards our car fund should be made payable to "C&MA" then sent to:

The Christian & Missionary Alliance
Donor Accounting
P.O. Box 35000
Colorado Springs, CO 80935-3500
(Designate: Car Fund-Michael Chang)

Prayer Requests:

1. Leadership Training
During our 2nd term, we need to focus on systematic training of the believers. We need to raise up Chinese Christian leaders in Peru.

2. Full-time worker for "Chifa Ministry"
To have a more effective ministries among the Chinese restaurant owners and cooks, we need to ask God to send a full-time coworker to be devoted solely for that ministry. With such a coworker, we could focus on the "Church Ministries."

3. Holistic Ministry at the Community Center
The center will have the following functions:
  • Headquarter for Administration & Training of the C&MA Chinese Mission in Peru
  • Site for the San Borja Chinese Church
  • After-school program for the children of immigrants
  • Medical Clinic for the Chinese immigrants
  • Language classes in Spanish, Chinese & English
  • Social/edicational activities/games
  • Dormitory for STM teams

In addition to the originally scheduled churches (see June 11 blog), the LORD has added additional churches to our list:

8/19 Bethany Presbyterian Church, Brookline, MA
8/29 Greater Hartford Chinese Baptist Church, West Hartford, CT
8/31 Rutgus Community Christian Church, Somerset, NJ

9/9 Mission Prayer Group in LA
9/11 Meeting with Group of Pastors in the LA Area
9/11-12 Home Meetings, Tustin, CA
9/12 to 16 Agape CAC, San Diego, CA
9/21 to 23 Silicon Valley Alliance Church, Milpita, CA
9/24 Chritian Witness Theological Seminary, Concord, CA
9/27 Meeting with Group of Pastors in the Bay Area

10/1 "Chifa" Fellowship Meeting, Walnut Creek, CA

On 9/8 we'll be leaving Boston for Los Angeles. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel and visit the churches in California.

Building Project Update

On 8/8, I received a phone call from my coworkers in San Borja Church that they saw another prospective property for our building project in Lima. All of the coworkers in Lima who have seen it, and we on the States side, have casted an unanimous vote to go ahead with the purchase.

It's a two-story building located on Av. Aviacion (known as the "2nd Chinatown in Lima") between Av. San Borja Norte (1/2 block) and Av. Javier Prado (4 blocks). Its an ideal location and has commercial zoning. It is a bank foreclosed office building held by the Banco de Comercio.

On the first floor, there is a wall-to-wall open space. The land on which the building is on has 3,600 in total square footage. There are several big office spaces on the second floor. The foundation has been designed to withstand the weight of a four-story building.

The final negotiated sale price is $260,000USD. Everything is in place for signing the deal. It could happen any day this week.

About our current meeting location, there has been a change of situation. We didn't need to move on 8/31. The landlord had changed her mind and was selling it to our Peruvian host church. We could stay until we have our own place ready to move in.

Please pray with us for God's leading and protection in the transaction process until the very end.
